Duties
The Tax Commissioner receives all tax returns and property tax exemption applications. It is the Tax Commissioner's responsibility to maintain the county tax digest. The Tax Commissioner collects and pays tax funds to state and local units of governments and issues executions against delinquent taxpayers. As Tag Agent, the Tax Commissioner's office also sells tags and decals for automobiles and other vehicles.

Ad valorem or property tax is the primary source of revenue for local counties and schools in Georgia and a major source of revenue for cities. Each County in Georgia has a tax office to collect this tax.
